F W Bernstein

F. W. Bernstein (born Fritz Weigle in Göppingen in 1938, died in Berlin in 2018) was a German poet, graphic artist, cartoonist and satirist. Along with Robert Gernhardt, F. K. Waechter and others, he is regarded as a co-founder of the New Frankfurt School. He worked for the satirical magazines pardon and Titanic and taught caricature and visual narrative as a professor at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin from 1984 to 1999. His publications include Richard Wagners Fahrt ins Glück – Sein Leben in Bildern und Versen (2002) and Frische Gedichte (2017). In 2003 he received the Göttinger Elch award; he was also awarded the Binding Cultural Prize. Throughout his life, Bernstein sent illustrated postcards to friends and acquaintances.
