F K Waechter

Friedrich Karl Waechter (1937–2005) was born in Danzig. He initially worked as a graphic artist and later as a draughtsman, caricaturist and cartoonist for satirical magazines and newspapers. He also wrote and illustrated children’s books and authored plays. Waechter was a founding member of the magazine Titanic and worked, among others, with Robert Gernhardt and F. W. Bernstein. His breakthrough came in 1970 with The Anti-Struwwelpeter. He received the German Youth Literature Prize in 1999 for The Red Wolf. He died in Frankfurt am Main.
