A. S. Neill

Alexander Sutherland Neill (1883–1973) was a Scottish educator and the founder of the boarding school Summerhill. He established the school in England in 1921, basing it on children’s self-determination and freedom of development. Neill led Summerhill until his death. His educational experience and beliefs made him an influential advocate of progressive education.
