Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick (1950–2009) was an American literary scholar and a major theorist of gender and queer theory. She received her PhD from Yale University in 1975. She taught at Hamilton College, Boston University, Amherst College, Dartmouth College, and Duke University, where she was Newman Ivey White Professor. She later taught English literature at the CUNY Graduate Center in New York. Her major books include »Between Men: English Literature and Male Homosocial Desire« (1985) and »Epistemology of the Closet« (1990). She was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2005 and to the American Philosophical Society in 2006.
