Eva Ibbotson

Eva Ibbotson (1925–2010) was born as Maria Charlotte Michelle Wiesner in Vienna and emigrated to England in 1933. After studying physiology and education, she initially worked as a teacher. She later became known as an author of children’s and adult fiction; her children’s books received several awards in the United Kingdom. Her best-known works include The Secret of Platform 13, A Glove Shop in Vienna and A Song for Summer. Ibbotson was married to the teacher Alan Ibbotson and had four children. She began writing children’s books when her youngest child started school.
