Emily Dickinson

Emily Dickinson (1830–1886) was an American poet and is regarded as one of the most important voices in American poetry. She was born and died in Amherst, Massachusetts. Dickinson wrote more than 1,700 poems, only a small number of which were published during her lifetime, in some cases anonymously and without her consent. She largely kept her writing private. Four years after her death, her sister Lavinia published her literary estate, bringing Dickinson’s work to a wider readership.
