Emily Dickinson

Emily Dickinson (1830–1886) was an American poet. She was born in Amherst, Massachusetts, and died there. She lived largely in seclusion and maintained contact with relatives and acquaintances mainly through letters. Only a small number of her more than 1,700 poems were published during her lifetime. Four years after her death, her sister Lavinia published her literary estate. Dickinson is now regarded as one of the most influential poets in American literature; her letters are also considered important works of American literature.
