Elvira Bormann-Nassonowa was born in Dresden in 1960. She studied Russian and Bulgarian at Leipzig University and graduated in 1983 as a qualified translator and interpreter. Among other positions, she worked as a translator, editor and announcer for the German-language section of Radio Sofia’s foreign service, and for Sofia-Press. She later worked for Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk and at TU Dresden, where she was affiliated with the Institute of Slavonic Studies and the Central Europe Center and taught Bulgarian. She translated books and texts by several Bulgarian authors into German; her translations, short stories, essays and dramatic texts appeared in German and Austrian journals and anthologies. From 2008, she worked as a translator for the European Commission in Luxembourg.
