Born in Frankfurt am Main in 1990, Ela zum Winkel grew up bilingually. She graduated from the Cours Florent acting school in Paris and studied translation studies at the University of Vienna. In 2021, she was a fellow of the Georges-Arthur-Goldschmidt Programme for young literary translators. She received the Bode Scholarship from the German Translators’ Fund for her translation of Djaïli Amadou Amal’s »Les impatientes«.
