Edna O'Brien

Edna O’Brien (born 1930 in Tuamgraney, western Ireland) was an Irish writer. She published more than twenty novels and collections of short stories, and also wrote plays, poetry, biographies and screenplays. Her debut novel, The Country Girls, was banned in Ireland and brought her international recognition. Her awards included the American National Arts Gold Medal, the Frank O’Connor Prize, the 2018 PEN/Nabokov Award for Achievement in International Literature and the 2019 David Cohen Lifetime Achievement Award.
