Edmund Jacoby

Edmund Jacoby, born in 1948, studied philosophy, history and political science in Tübingen and Paris and earned his doctorate in Frankfurt am Main in 1983 with a work on social philosophy. He taught at Goethe University Frankfurt and worked as a translator of scholarly and literary texts. In late 1983, he became an editor at Büchergilde Gutenberg; in 1995, he took over the management of Gerstenberg Verlag. In 2008, he co-founded the publishing house Jacoby & Stuart with Nicola Stuart. Jacoby has published works on Schiller, Goethe, Charles Dickens and the political thought of Weimar Classicism, as well as numerous children’s and nonfiction books. His works include “Weltsprache Europäisch. Eine Kulturgeschichte unserer Wörter” (2022).
