Dorothy Parker

Dorothy Parker (1893–1967) was an American writer, poet, and critic. She worked for publications including *Vanity Fair*, *Esquire*, and *The New Yorker*, and wrote poetry, short stories, plays, and screenplays. Parker was part of the literary circle associated with New York’s Algonquin Hotel, known as the Algonquin Round Table. Her first poetry collection, *Enough Rope*, was published in 1926 and became a commercial success. She later wrote screenplays in Hollywood and was nominated for an Academy Award for *A Star Is Born* (1937). During the McCarthy era, she was placed on the Hollywood studios’ blacklist.
