Dolores Prato (1892–1983) was born in Rome and grew up with relatives of her mother in Treja (now Treia) in the Marche region. After training as a teacher in Rome, she taught in Tuscany, Macerata and Milan, among other places. She also contributed to various newspapers and magazines. She is best known for her autobiographical work “Giù la piazza non c’è nessuno” (“There Is No One Down in the Piazza”), which was first published in a heavily abridged version in 1980; the complete edition appeared in 1997.
