David Rousset (1912–1997) was a French journalist and writer. A socialist in the 1930s, he travelled through Nazi Germany and began working as a journalist for American magazines in 1938. Arrested by the German occupation authorities in 1943 for his political activities, he was tortured and deported to concentration camps; he survived the death march from Neuengamme to Wöbbelin. His first book, *The Concentration Camp Universe*, received the Prix Renaudot in 1946. He later wrote about political persecution and prison camps in several countries, including the Soviet Union, China and Spain. Rousset died in Paris in 1997.
