Dale Carnegie (1888–1955) was an American communication trainer and author. Born in Missouri into modest circumstances, he began giving seminars and public-speaking courses in New York shortly before the First World War. He became internationally known for his 1936 book *How to Win Friends and Influence People*. Another well-known work is *How to Stop Worrying and Start Living*. His books address interpersonal communication, self-confidence, and a positive outlook, and have been translated into numerous languages and sold millions of copies worldwide.
