Constance Fenimore Woolson

Constance Fenimore Woolson (1840–1894) was an American writer and the great-niece of James Fenimore Cooper. She began writing after her father’s death in 1869. Following the death of her mother, she moved to England, where she initially wrote mainly for magazines. Her works include the novels *Anne* (1880–81), *For the Major* (1883), and *East Angels* (1886), as well as the collection *Castle Nowhere: Lake-Country Sketches* (1886). Woolson also wrote about the Great Lakes region, the American South, and Europe. She died in Venice in 1894.
