Claus Peymann

Claus Peymann (born 1937 in Bremen) is a German theatre director and manager. He began his career at the Studio Stage of the University of Hamburg. He worked as a guest director at theatres in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, served as chief director at the TAT in Frankfurt, and was among the theatre practitioners who took over Berlin’s Schaubühne. He later became director of drama at the State Theatre in Stuttgart, general director of the Schauspielhaus Bochum, director of Vienna’s Burgtheater and, succeeding Heiner Müller, director of the Berliner Ensemble.
