Claudia Sinnig

Claudia Sinnig (born 1965) grew up in Gotha, Germany, and studied Russian and English in Leipzig as well as Lithuanian in Vilnius. In 1989, she co-founded the Lithuanian Review, described in the source biographies as Lithuania’s first uncensored English-language newspaper. In 1990, she worked for Lithuania’s first freely elected parliament under Vytautas Landsbergis. She received a doctorate in Lithuanian literature in 1992 and subsequently worked as a freelance author, literary scholar and translator. Her translations included works by Tomas Venclova, Jonas Mekas, Eugenijus Ališanka, Antanas Škėma and Sigitas Parulskis. Her book “Litauen. Ein literarischer Reisebegleiter” (“Lithuania: A Literary Travel Guide”) was published in 2002.
