Claude Lanzmann

Claude Lanzmann (1925–2018) was born in Paris and studied philosophy. He worked as a journalist and was a lecturer at the Free University of Berlin. For many years, he edited »Les Temps Modernes«, the journal founded by Jean-Paul Sartre. As an author and filmmaker, he became especially well known for the films »Pourquoi Israël«, »Shoah« and »Tsahal«. His book »The Patagonian Hare« received, among other honors, the Welt Literature Prize. Lanzmann held numerous honorary doctorates and received many other awards. He died in Paris in 2018.
