Christian Drosten (born in 1972) is a specialist in microbiology, virology and infectious disease epidemiology and heads the Institute of Virology at Berlin’s Charité hospital. He is particularly known for his research on RNA viruses and coronaviruses. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he served on the German federal government’s Council of Experts and contributed to public information efforts, including the award-winning NDR podcast “Das Coronavirus-Update.”
