Charles Taylor, born in Canada in 1931, is a Canadian philosopher and political scientist. He studied at McGill University and the University of Oxford, where he received his PhD in 1961. He subsequently taught political philosophy at McGill University in Montreal, where he became professor emeritus. His work addresses Hegel, communitarianism, secularism and multiculturalism. Taylor received the Hegel Prize of the City of Stuttgart in 1997, the Templeton Prize in 2007 and the Kyoto Prize in 2008.
