Chaim Nachman Bialik

Chaim Nachman Bialik (1873–1934) was a Jewish poet, writer, and journalist. Born in Volhynia, he was raised in a strictly religious household by his grandfather. As a teenager, he joined the Zionist movement. Bialik was a pioneer of modern Hebrew literature and of Hebrew as a secular literary language, and is revered in Israel as its national poet. In 1922, he fled the Soviet Union for Berlin and emigrated to Palestine in 1924. He died in Vienna.
