Carmen Maria Machado (born 1986) is an American author, critic, and essayist of Cuban and Austrian heritage. Her short stories, essays, and criticism have appeared in The New Yorker and numerous other magazines and anthologies. She completed the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. Her debut, Her Body and Other Parties (2017), was nominated for the National Book Award and the Nebula Award and received ten prizes, including the Bard Fiction Prize. In 2019, she published the memoir In the Dream House.
