Carl R Rogers

Carl R. Rogers (1902–1987) was an American psychologist and psychotherapist. He studied with Otto Rank, later moved away from psychoanalysis, and developed the person-centered, or client-centered, approach. From 1940 he taught psychology at the University of Chicago and later at the Center for Studies of the Person in California. Rogers is regarded as the founder of client-centered psychotherapy, which also influenced humanistic psychology as well as educational and counseling practice. In 1975, he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Hamburg.
