Carl Friedrich von Rumohr (1785–1843) was born in Reinhardtsgrimma near Dresden and studied art history at the University of Göttingen. He worked as an art historian, art collector, draughtsman, etcher, agricultural historian, patron, diplomat, and novelist. His numerous journeys, including travels to Italy, contributed to his important art-historical work „Italienische Forschungen“ (1827–1831). Rumohr is also known for „Geist der Kochkunst“, a notable work on the philosophy and culture of cooking. He died in Dresden.
