Dr. Carl Dietmar (born 1949) is a historian who holds a doctorate. He studied history, specializing in the Middle Ages, at the University of Cologne and worked for many years as a journalist and editor at the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger newspaper. Dietmar has written numerous essays and more than a dozen books on the history of Cologne and the Rhineland, including Kleine illustrierte Geschichte der Stadt Köln (1996) and Der Kölner Dom (1997). As a co-author, he edited and completed a manuscript left by Hugo Stehkämper, published in 2016 as Köln im Hochmittelalter, the third volume of the Geschichte der Stadt Köln.
