Caleb Azumah Nelson, born in South East London in 1993, is a writer and photographer. He is the son of Ghanaian parents who came to Britain as teenagers. His short stories have appeared in literary magazines including Granta and Litro. In 2020, Nelson was nominated for the BBC National Short Story Prize. Before devoting himself to writing, he worked in an Apple Store; he wrote the first pages of his debut novel early in the morning or late at night around his shifts. His debut novel, “Frei schwimmen,” received several awards, including the Costa Book Award for Best First Novel and the Somerset Maugham Award.
