Bruno Reichart

Bruno Reichart is a German cardiac surgeon and transplant medicine specialist. In 1981, he performed his first heart transplant at Munich University Hospital; by 1984, he had transplanted 23 donor hearts there. In 1983, he carried out the first heart-lung transplant in Germany. In 1984, at the suggestion of Christiaan Barnard, Reichart became head of the surgical departments for heart and lung diseases at Groote Schuur Hospital and Red Cross Children’s Hospital in Cape Town. In 1990, he returned to Munich as professor and head of cardiac surgery at Munich University Hospital.
