Brigitte Jakobeit

Brigitte Jakobeit (born 1955) studied English, Romance languages and literature, German studies, and biology before working as a journalist and editor. She began translating English-language literature into German in 1989. Her translations include works by William Trevor, Christopher Isherwood, Celeste Ng, and Patti Smith, as well as autobiographies by Miles Davis and Nina Simone. Jakobeit received the German Children’s and Young Adult Literature Prize several times and was also awarded the Hamburg Advancement Award for Literary Translation. In 2018, she received the Heinrich Maria Ledig-Rowohlt Prize.
