Beate Lakotta

Beate Lakotta, born in Kassel in 1965, worked for many years as an editor and reporter for the German news magazine Der Spiegel. She initially worked in its science department, covering medical ethics, psychology, psychiatry, and neuroscience. From 2010 onward, she worked as a crime and legal reporter, reporting, among other subjects, from prisons and courtrooms. In 2003, she and Walter Schels published the report “Noch mal leben vor dem Tod” in Der Spiegel, for which they received the Hansel-Mieth Prize. Lakotta has received several awards for her reporting.
