Barbara Vine was the pseudonym of the writer Ruth Rendell, who was born in 1930. Her work received numerous awards. In 1996, she was appointed Commander of the British Empire (CBE) by Queen Elizabeth II, and in 1997 she received the Mystery Writers of America’s Grand Master Award for lifetime achievement. She was also made a peer on the recommendation of Tony Blair and appointed to the House of Lords. She died in 2015.
