Barbara Comyns

Barbara Comyns (1909–1992) was born in Bidford-on-Avon, Warwickshire, and attended art schools in Stratford-upon-Avon and London. She wrote novels and illustrated stories. Her first novel, *Sisters by a River*, was published in 1947. She also supported herself at various times by selling antiques and vintage cars, breeding poodles, renovating apartments, and working as a cook. She published eleven books in total, which were translated into several languages.
