Augustine (354–430), also known as Augustine of Hippo, was a Roman bishop and Church Father born in North Africa. The son of a pagan father and a Christian mother, he first turned to Manichaeism and later to Neoplatonic philosophy. Under the influence of Ambrose of Milan, he ultimately embraced Christianity. He was bishop of Hippo Regius.
