Kurt Flasch (born 1930 in Mainz) was a German philosopher and historian of philosophy. From 1970 to 1995, he was professor of philosophy at Ruhr University Bochum. His research focused on late antique and medieval philosophy, including Augustine, Dietrich of Freiberg, Meister Eckhart and Nicholas of Cusa. Among his notable works is the monograph “Meister Eckhart – Philosophie des Christentums”; he also translated Boccaccio’s “Decameron” into German. Flasch received the Sigmund Freud Prize for Scientific Prose in 2000, the Hannah Arendt Prize in 2009, the Lessing Prize for Criticism and the Tractatus Prize in 2010, and the Joseph Breitbach Prize in 2012.
