Atsushi Kaneko

Atsushi Kaneko was born on December 26, 1966, in Sakata, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan. The Japanese manga artist began drawing after completing his studies; by his own account, he was influenced more by music and film than by manga. He first attracted attention in 1990 with “Ratty gets new way,” which won recognition in a competition organized by the magazine Big Comic Spirits. His notable works include “Bambi,” “Soil,” “Wet Moon,” and “Deathco.” “Soil” received the Grand Prix de l’Imaginaire in 2012, while “Wet Moon” won the French critics’ prize Prix Asie ACBD in 2014. Kaneko’s work often combines thriller and film-noir elements with influences from punk and film history.
