Osamu Tezuka

Osamu Tezuka (1928–1989) was a Japanese manga artist and a pioneer of modern manga and anime. Born in Toyonaka in Osaka Prefecture, he began drawing manga while still at school. He studied medicine and received a medical doctorate in 1961, but went on to work as a full-time manga artist. His best-known works include Astro Boy, Kimba the White Lion, Ribon no Kishi (Princess Knight), and Unico. In 1961, he founded the animation studio Mushi Production. Through his extensive body of work, Tezuka had a lasting influence on both Japanese manga and anime.
