Astrid Mattes

Astrid Mattes, also known as Astrid Mattes-Zippenfenig, is a political scientist and scholar of religion. Her professional positions have included postdoctoral research at the Austrian Academy of Sciences and a tenure-track professorship in the social-scientific study of religion at the University of Vienna’s Research Centre “Religion and Transformation in Contemporary Society.” She has also worked as a migration researcher at the Institute for Urban and Regional Research of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. Her research focuses in particular on the intersections of religion and politics, as well as migration.
