Arnold Bennett

Arnold Bennett (1867–1931) was an English writer, critic, and essayist. Born in Hanley, he initially worked in a law office before beginning to write for the magazine *The Woman*, of which he later became editor. Bennett wrote numerous novels as well as essays. Among his best-known works is *Hotel Grand Babylon* (1902), his first major novel, which became particularly well known in Germany. He died in London.
