Aristophanes (c. 445–c. 385 BCE) was a Greek poet and one of the most prominent representatives of Attic comedy. He wrote around 40 plays, eleven of which have survived. His best-known works include *The Birds*, *Lysistrata*, *The Frogs*, and *Wealth*. The Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta (431–404 BCE) was a recurring subject in his plays. His works received awards during his lifetime.
