Anšlavs Eglītis (1906–1993) was a Latvian writer, journalist, film critic, and dramatist. Born in Riga, he studied art and began writing in the mid-1920s. From the mid-1930s onward, he published books that often captured the atmosphere of interwar Riga. In 1944, he fled to Germany with his wife, the artist Veronika Janelsiņa; in 1952, they emigrated to the United States. He produced around 50 works in the following decades. Janelsiņa illustrated many of his books.
