Annie Dillard

Annie Dillard, born in 1945 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is an American poet and essayist. She studied English and wrote her thesis on Henry David Thoreau’s Walden. Her work explores themes of nature and spirituality. Her book Pilgrim at Tinker Creek (1974), a record of observations from the mountains of Virginia, won the Pulitzer Prize. Dillard has also received numerous other awards and honorary doctorates, including the National Humanities Medal.
