Anne Berest was born in Paris in 1979. She initially worked as an actress and theatre director and edited a theatre magazine before publishing her first novel, »Traurig bin ich schon lange nicht mehr«, in 2010. The novel was nominated for the Prix Goncourt du premier roman. Her other works include »Les Patriarches« (2012), a biography of Françoise Sagan (2014), and »Emilienne oder die Suche nach der perfekten Frau« (2015). In 2017, she co-wrote »Ein Leben für die Avantgarde – Die Geschichte von Gabriële Buffet-Picabia« with her sister Claire. She also co-authored »How to Be Parisian – Wherever You Are«, which was translated into more than 35 languages. Her novel »Die Postkarte«, published in 2021, became a bestseller in France.
