Dr. Anke Elisabeth Ballmann is an educator, psychologist, and author. In 2007, she founded the Lernmeer Institute for the consultation, training, and continuing education of educational professionals; in 2020, she initiated the Foundation for a Nonviolent Childhood. As a psychologist, she reportedly spent around 15,000 hours working with children and parents. She also served as deputy head of a kindergarten and worked as an adviser for the magazine Mädchen. Ballmann taught as a lecturer, worked as an educational consultant, and held a teaching position at Friedrich-Alexander University. Over a ten-year period, she worked in more than 500 early-childhood education centers. Her main areas of focus are child-centered learning and nonviolent education. She has been described as a SPIEGEL bestselling author.
