Andrzej Stasiuk

Andrzej Stasiuk (born 1960 in Warsaw) is a Polish writer. He made his literary debut in 1992 with the story collection “Mury Hebronu” (“The Walls of Hebron”), drawing on his experiences in prison. In 1980, he was conscripted into the army, deserted after nine months, and served his sentence in military and civilian prisons. His notable works include “Galician Tales,” “The White Raven,” “Dukla,” and “On the Road to Babadag.” He received Poland’s Nike Literary Award in 2005 for “On the Road to Babadag.” He was also awarded the Samuel-Bogumil-Linde Literature Prize in 2002 and the European Literature Prize in 2016.
