Born in Poland in 1948, Andrzej Sapkowski is a Polish author who also worked as an economist and literary critic. He is best known for the saga about Geralt of Rivia, the Witcher, which draws on Slavic, Norse and ancient mythology as well as folktales. His other notable works include a medieval trilogy about the physician Reinmar of Bielau. Sapkowski received the Janusz A. Zajdel Award five times and was also honored with the David Gemmell Award. In 2008, he was made an honorary citizen of the city of Łódź.
