Andreas Lehnardt

Andreas Lehnardt (born 1965 in Duisburg) studied Jewish studies and theology in Münster, Munich, Bonn, Cologne, Jerusalem, Tübingen, and Berlin. From 1990 to 1993, he worked as a research assistant at the Institutum Judaicum Delitzschianum, followed by research work at the University of Tübingen, including a DFG project on Jewish writings from the Hellenistic-Roman period. He received a doctorate in Jewish studies from the Free University of Berlin in 1999. In 2004, he was appointed professor of Jewish studies at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. His scholarly areas include rabbinic and medieval Jewish literature, the Talmud Yerushalmi, Hebrew manuscripts, Jewish history in Germany, and the Eastern European Haskalah.
