Andrea Hirata

Andrea Hirata was born on the Indonesian island of Belitung. He studied economics at the University of Indonesia and continued his education with scholarships in Paris and Sheffield. In 2010, he took part in the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa. His debut novel, *The Rainbow Troops*, was translated into 25 languages, adapted into an Indonesian film in 2008, and received the ITB Book Award in 2013. His novel *The Dreamer* was also adapted into an Indonesian film.
