Andrea Camilleri

Andrea Camilleri (1925–2019) was an Italian writer, screenwriter and director. Born in Porto Empedocle, Sicily, he worked for many years for the Italian public broadcaster Rai and taught for more than two decades at the Accademia d’Arte Drammatica Silvio D’Amico in Rome. Camilleri wrote more than 100 books and became best known for his crime novels featuring the Sicilian commissioner Salvo Montalbano. He also wrote historical novels and repeatedly addressed Sicily, corruption and organized crime in his work. His books were translated into more than 30 languages. Camilleri died in Rome in 2019.
