Amitav Ghosh

Amitav Ghosh, born in Kolkata in 1956, is an Indian writer and essayist. He grew up in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, studied in New Delhi and Oxford, and taught at several universities after completing his doctorate. His international breakthrough came in 2001 with the novel The Glass Palace. Among his best-known works is the trilogy comprising Sea of Poppies, River of Smoke and Flood of Fire. His fiction and nonfiction have been translated into more than thirty languages. He received the Jnanpith Award in 2019 and the Erasmus Prize in 2024 for his writing on climate change.
