Alfred Weidinger

Alfred Weidinger (born 1961 in Schwanenstadt, Upper Austria) is an Austrian art historian, museum manager, and photographer. He studied art history and classical archaeology at the University of Salzburg. In Vienna, he served as deputy director of the Albertina and as chief curator and deputy director of the Austrian Belvedere. He subsequently directed the Museum of Fine Arts Leipzig, where he established a focus on East German and non-conformist art from the GDR period. In 2020, he became managing director of the Upper Austrian Landes-Kultur GmbH. His research interests include classical modernism, contemporary photography, and media art. His publications include a catalogue raisonné of Oskar Kokoschka’s drawings and watercolours and a catalogue of Gustav Klimt’s paintings.
