Alfred Pfoser was born in Wels in 1952 and studied German, history and journalism in Salzburg. From 1998 to 2007, he headed the Vienna Public Libraries. He subsequently served as head of the Printed Materials Collection and deputy director of the Vienna City Library until 2016. Pfoser has published extensively on Austrian cultural and literary history. His works include “Im Epizentrum des Zusammenbruchs. Wien im Ersten Weltkrieg” (2013) and “Die erste Stunde Null” (2018, with Andreas Weigl). He also co-edited “Otto Wagner – Meine angebetete Louise” (2019) with Andreas Nierhaus and “Die Zerstörung der Demokratie und der Februar 1934” (2023) with Bernhard Hachleitner, Katharina Prager and Werner Michael Schwarz.
